Sascha Hyer

Coach Sascha Hyer is entering as Wellen Park's first Head Football Coach. This is Coach Hyer's 31st season coaching football. After finishing his playing career at Shepherd College, he started his coaching career as the tight ends coach at Shepherd. From there, he was the offensive line coach at West Virginia Tech. He then spent two years at Wesley College as the Offensive Line coach. In 2000, his offensive line helped lead the way to one of the top offenses in NCAA Division III, averaging over 400 yards of offense per game and 47.8 points per game.

In 2002, Coach Hyer moved to Florida as the defensive coordinator at North Port High. He spent five years as an assistant coach and then, in 2007, became the head coach. After North Port High, Coach Hyer spent 14 years at Venice High School. From 2011–2016 he was the offensive line coach, and then 2017 through 2024 was the defensive line coach.

Along with being the Head Football coach, Coach Hyer is also an Assistant Athletic Director. In the classroom, Coach Hyer is a member of the social studies department and serves as the Department Chair for social studies at WPHS.

Sascha has been happily married to his wife, Kristen, for the last 28 years. Kristen and Sascha are the proud parents of Jake and Maggie. Jake will be graduating this December from the University of West Florida with a bachelor's in music education. He is also a member of the UWF Singers as well as the previous Lead Ambassador of UWF. Maggie will be a Freshman at the University of Central Florida, where she will be majoring in nursing.

    Coach Rotella brings over 25 years of coaching experience to Wellen Park. He started his football career as a High School All-State WR in New York. He has coached 10 years at Venice High School, where he was freshman Head Coach for five years then spent five years with JV as Offensive Coordinator with five straight undefeated seasons.

    Coach Rotella graduated college with a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics and now owns and manages a successful business of over 20 years in the legal and medical educational training industry. Coach Rotella and his wife Dena have been married 40 years, with three children and five grandchildren.

    Coach Poulos is originally from Port Charlotte and was raised in North Port. A graduate of North Port High School, where he played wide receiver before continuing his football career at CSU Pueblo. While at CSU Pueblo, he earned a bachelor's degree in history.

    Today, Coach Poulos serves as a social studies teacher and 3DE program launch teacher, bringing his passion for education and mentorship into every aspect of his career. Dedicated to developing young athletes both on and off the field, Coach Poulos is excited for the opportunity to serve the Wellen Park community and help build a winning culture.

    Coach Streich is a graduate of Venice High School, where he developed his passion for football both on and off the field. As a member of the Indians football program, he helped lead the team to the 2017 Florida State Championship. Following his high school career, Coach Streich continued his football journey at NCAA Division I FCS Jacksonville University, where he played for one season while continuing to develop his understanding of the game.

    Coach Streich is entering his 7th year coaching football, and currently serves as the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. He is committed to building a disciplined, physical, and championship-caliber defense while helping develop young men into leaders both on and off the field. Prior to joining Wellen Park, he spent six seasons at Venice High School as the JV Defensive Coordinator. During his time with the Indians, he also served as a Varsity Assistant Middle Linebackers Coach and Assistant Outside Linebackers Coach over the past four seasons.

    Away from the football field, Coach Streich enjoys spending time with his wife, Lauren, whose unwavering support has been an incredible blessing throughout his coaching and teaching career. In the classroom, he is a proud member of the Career and Technical Education Department at Wellen Park High School, where he teaches agriculture.

    Coach Bolyard brings a lifelong passion for football and player development to the coaching staff. A Venice High School graduate, Weston played defensive tackle and earned a state championship ring with the 2017 State Championship team. He continued his football career at the University of Mount Union before returning home to coach at his local high school. Since coming back to the sidelines, Weston has helped lead the Venice High program to two additional state championships.

    Away from football, Coach Bolyard enjoys spending time with his wife — his middle school sweetheart — and their four kids. As a family, they love cooking, traveling, and playing sports together.

    Coach Brad Durden serves as the Defensive Backs Coach and brings years of playing experience and a passion for developing student-athletes. He played running back and linebacker at Westminster High School from 1998–2001 before continuing his football career as a linebacker at Concord University from 2002–2004.

    Coach Durden is dedicated to building strong fundamentals, discipline, and confidence both on and off the field. He and his wife, Erin, are proud parents to their two children, Tripp and Brinn.

  • Mariano Lopez, JV Head Coach

    Coach Lopez is a graduate of Venice High School, class of 2022, where he played football all four years. He was a member of the 2021 State Championship team and went on to become a state qualifier in Boys' Weightlifting. After graduating, Coach Lopez returned to Venice High as a JV assistant where he coached defensive line, completing three undefeated seasons during his time at VHS. He was also an assistant coach of the girls' weightlifting team alongside Coach Hyer.

    Coach Lopez will be the first head JV coach at Wellen Park and will also be girls and boys weightlifting coach. Coach Lopez works on campus in the ESE department. When he's not on the field or in the weight room mentoring athletes, you can usually find him in the gym, continuing to pursue his passion for strength and athletic development.
